Valea Prahovei (The Valley of river Prahova) is the most accessible ski resort when coming from Bucharest. You simply take DN1, a good road but crowded during rush hours, towards Brasov through Ploiesti. You will find the most popular Romanian mountain resorts: Azuga, Busteni, Predeal, Sinaia. They are practically united one to another and accommodation opportunities are numerous.
The ski season lasts from December to April, sometimes May on certain altitudes. But they are fun destinations all year round for hiking.
Sinaia is the mountain resort closest to Bucharest and has to offer a lot of tourist attractions. Be sure not to miss The Peles Castle (Castelul Peles), the winter residence of Romanian monarchs with its impressive architecture and art collection. But also take the time to stroll through the city: the 19 century houses have a historic look and some are created by skillful architects.
From Sinaia several lines of ski-lift an tele-cabin can take you to higher altitudes of up to 1.400 m and 2.000 m. Crossing Valea Dorului (Valley of Love) you can get to Varful cu Dor (Love Top), 2.030 m. The closest ski-run to 2.000 m is Carp, which descents to 1.400 m.

In Busteni Resort (Tree logs) there is an Olympic ski-run situated at 950 m altitude with ski-lift and a ski school for beginners and children. The most modern ski-run in Busteni is Kalinderu, with a lenght of 1.500 m, ski-lift and artificial snow installation. The ski-run from Valea Cerbului (Stag’s Valley) also has artificial snow installation and a nocturne. With a length of 3 km it is one of the longest in the country, together with Babele – Pestera and Gura Diham – Busteni. Other ski-runs in the area are: from the Cabana Omu (The Chalet of Man, 2.050 m altitude), Valea Gaura, Piatra Arsa, Boncu.

In Azuga, the most famous ski-run is Sorica, 2 km long, with nocturne and artificial snow installation for its last 800 m. The starting point of Sorica is at 1539 m altitude. The second option in Azuga Resort is Cazacu ski-run.

Predeal is the city at the highest altitude in Romania and has to offer 8 generous ski facilities. The most famous are: Clabucet and Cocosul (The Rooster), with over 2 km length and Subteleferic ski-run.
